Canyon Lake has a surface area of 950 acres and is the third and smallest of four lakes created along the Salt River. The two other lakes along the river are Apache Lake and Roosevelt Lake which are upstream. The fourth is Saguaro Lake.
Canyon Lake lies approximately 14 miles up the Apache Trail from Apache Junction, Arizona and 50 miles east of Phoenix; about a 45 min drive. It is within the Superstition Wilderness of Tonto National Forest and is a popular recreation area for the Phoenix metropolitan area.
